No big surprises at the weekend box office, with The Island taking the top spot with an impressive opening, followed by Madagascar and War of The Worlds. Korean movies had to take what was left: 천군 (Heaven's Soldiers) closed at 1,040,000; 여고괴담 4: 목소리 (Voice) at 450,000 and 분홍신 (The Red Shoes) at 1,340,000. We'll see if Hollywood blockbusters can continue to reign next week, when 친절한 금자씨 (Sympathy For Lady Vengeance) debuts.

내 청춘에 고함 (My Screams of Youth), starring Kim Tae-Woo, will be partly funded by Japanese broadcasting company NHK, as part of their Asian Film Festival Production Fund. The Fund, which helped productions by Abbas Kiarostami and Lee Chang-Dong in the past, will cover 400 Million of the 1.1 Billion Won project. The film will also star Kim Hye-Na and Lee Sang-Woo, and is directed by 여자는 남자의 미래다 (Woman is The Future of Man)'s assistant director Kim Young-Nam. The film is expected to finish shooting in late August and enter right into post-production.

The North Korean-Chinese coproduction 력도산의 비밀 (Rikidozan's Secret) will make its theatrical debut in China this coming August. The film, a production of North Korea's Chosun Art Film Production and China's Chuang Chun (長春) Film Production, is the second film in two years telling the story of the famous Korean born pro-wrestler.
