James Iha Writing Music For Japanese Film?

linda.jpgLooks like the former Smashing Pumpkins guitar player is keeping busy on foreign shores. Check this out:

"A friend tipped me off to this - LINDA, LINDA, LINDA, a film about high school girls forming a band in Japan. Listed on this trailer is some kind of involvement by James Iha, from Smashing Pumpkins. Not the first time he has had a j-pop connection as I believe he produced the album "Cream" by Mean Machine, an all girl band featuring Chara, the talented wife of Asano Tadanobu.


LINDA X3 also stars the Korean actress Bae Doona from PLEASE TAKE CARE OF MY CAT and SYMPATHY FOR MR VENGEANCE."

From what I can gather from the trailer the film follows four girls with a fixation on actual J-rock act The Blue Hearts who form a band for a high school talent show. You can hit the film's website here and stream the full trailer here.

Jason Gray is even in the movie. As a Ramone!
Great news about Iha. SP is one of my favorite bands and after Ramblers and No one's ark Nobuhiro Yamashita is one of my favorite directors.
Can't wait.

Hi guys.

I'm actually not subbing "Linda" (though I did ask if I could!) Not sure if Bitters End (the distributor) has had subs and export materials made yet.

Hanging out with the four leading ladies was...very nice. Especially Maeda Aki -- she's so sweet.

A couple pictures: The first is my friend Jim and a nice closeup of Miss Maeda. Next is us in our garb with the lovely (and strangely-named) Kashii Yû-san. The guy in the back is mega-famous musician Pierre Taki. We're blink-and-you'll-miss-us in the film, but it's a funny moment nonetheless.

Trivia: Yamashita Nobuhiro's strangest job (he's had quite a few between films) -- wearing one of those big-headed character costumes at a kid's theme park.

Aki Maeda is in this too? Damnit, I gotta own this movie.

Just noticed on Tower Japan that they're also releasing a live mini-album CD as PARAN MAUM ("The Blue Hearts" in Korean) on 7/20. Bae DooNa on vocals, Aki on drums. Covering songs by The Blue Hearts, the quintessential Japanese punk band from the 80s. I'm geeking out over here.

Hi, I'm the forementioned "Jim" aka "Joey Ramone". friend of dear Jason and the lucky fella next to Miss Maeda. The whole experience was one surreal trip that will stay with me forever. Been waiting for this film.
Hopefully it'll be out on DVD soon.
