This sounds like it could be a lot of fun. Fox Searchlight Pictures bought the worldwide rights for the British mockumentary Confetti at Cannes after screening 20 minutes of footage. The story centres around three couples in a fierce bridal magazine contest to win an all-expenses-paid wedding.
"It's a fully fledged film comedy with elements of improvisation," said BBC Films head David Thompson, whose company was one of the producers. "They didn't know who would win. It's a rather funny and emotional roller-coaster ride."
So up until now it sounds like it might be good for a laugh. But. Check out the cast: Martin Freeman [The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and The Office], Jessica Stevenson [Spaced and Shaun of the Dead], Stephen Mangan [Green Wing], Felicity Montagu [I'm Alan Partridge], Alison Steadman [Topsy-Turvy] and film rookie Jimmy Carr. Other notables from the BritCom scene include Olivia Colman [Green Wing and Look Around You], Julia Davis [Nighty Night and Big Train] and Mark Heap [Green Wing and Spaced].
The IFC Blog called it Christopher Guest-ish [Waitng for Guffman, Best in Show and A Mighty Wind]. I couldn't think of a more apt discription. Confetti is in post-production right now. No release date has been set.
