The official website for Kôhei Oguri's The Buried Forest (Umoregi) is online, and there's a trailer for the movie on it here. There's an English-language synopsis for the movie here on the website of Gold View Y.K. (Y.K. Gôrudo Byû), and an article about it on Stauffen's website. The movie was scored by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt (Aruvo Peruto). Its principal cast is as follows: Karen, Hiromitsu Tosaka, Tadanobu Asano (he's also in Suguru Takeuchi, Akio Jissôji, Hisayasu Satô, and Atsushi Kaneko's omnibus horror movie Ranpo jigoku), Akira Sakata, Taka Ôkubo, Sumiko Sakamoto, Yûko Tanaka, Mitsuru Hirata, Ittoku Kishibe, Tokie Hidari, Yoshi Sakô, and Takashi Nishina.
This is really one stunning looking piece of cinema. Too bad the trailer doesn't show the scenes I saw in the promo-clip on 'arte'.
Asano and Arvo Part? Not a combo that I'd go looking for, but it's a good one ... back in teh days when I was selling CDs we used to throw Part on the store system from time to time. He was one of the go-to's along with Soul Coughing, Tom Jones, The Jayhawks and Nick Drake.
That trailer beautiful stuff ... the shot of them jumping through the forest is just eerie ...
