Banlieue 13

(Posted In)

b13.jpgPerhaps best known for his input in La Femme Nikita, The Fifth Element, and most notably Leon-The Professional, lately Luc Besson has spent quite a bit of time getting involved in a number of side-projects. Whether or not they have solidified his career I will leave for you to decide. In Banlieue 13, similar to the now well-known Yamakasi Luc Besson appears both as a writer and co-priducer.
Banlieue 13 was just released on the market in France and the DVD offers optional English and Arabian subtitles for those that need them.

Did the English subs end up making the cut? They were in the original announcement, but rumblings were that they'd been dropped ... if you can find a post-release source vouching that they are actually on there I'll be doing some shopping ...

And if anyone knows of an english Subs .srt file, that would be nice!

As I said in the original post...English subs are provided. With this said, the film was released simultaneously in France, and French-speaking Europe-Monaco,Luxembourg, Belguim. So, the Benelux received a version that does not offer English subs. That is where the confusion stems from.
Here's a nice review:

Does anyone actually have the disc yet? I was burned on CRIMSON RIVERS 2 recently - all listing had it featuring english subs, the packaging listed english subs, but there were none to be found on the disc. I'm just curious to hear some first-hand accounts.

I just ordered one straight from Pathe/Fox France, so we'll see. Their listing definitely says that they're there, as does that review link Svet posted, but the screen caps of the menu system there don't show any sign of an English option, so I won't know till things arrive ...

Keep us posted, Todd!

No subs on the french dvd, i recieved this and les fils du vent from amazon.fr last week. Both stunning films to look at. Real eye candy. :)

I can not believe this...esp. considering Ecranlarge's review. They are VERY reliable...I suppose I am to blame as I provided all the links indicating subs.

The news of this not having English subs was revealed a while ago when DVDRama.fr reviewed it.

If I wasn't currently addicted to DEADWOOD, I would have watched it tonite (now that I have the subs posted in the comments section here. Expect a full review of the film within the week.

Chris,

DVDRANA is anything but a reliable source when it comes down to subs. With this said, I have received an email from the main editor at Ecranlarge. Here it is for you:

"> Hello Svet,
> I just check the DVD and it was a mistake : the DVD cover indicate english
> subtitles but the disc doesn't have any.
> I have juste change our database and correct the false information.
> I hope that this information will help you.
> Sincerely yours.
> Laurent Pécha.

Just watched the season finale of Deadwood yesterday ... man, what a great show. Hearst is a solid bit of against-type casting and the whole episode is a textbook example of how to weave different story lines together.
