Pink Ribbon. Documentary On Japanese Pink Cinema. Official Site. Trailer.

(Posted In)

pinkribbon.jpegNot sure who the Director is (藤井謙二郎 - Kenjiro Fuji ?), but I first actually saw this listed on a Korean site and I spotted the picture of Kiyoshi Kurosawa - who is one of the interviewed Directors in this Documentary on Pink Cinema.

IMDB says it contains interviews (in its 118 minute running time) with Masao Adachi, Kazuyuki Izutsu, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Banmei Takahashi, Koji Wakamatsu, and Yumi Yoshiyuki.

It caught my eye back then, and now here's the Official Site in Japanese which has lots of small excerpts and other stuff in there. See it here. Trailer here.

This documentary is a real disappointment. Director Fujii released Ambivalent Future/Aimai na Mirai, a making-of of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Bright Future, in a very similar style about 2 years ago. Lots of talking head shots, interspersed with long behind-the-scenes shots of people setting up the lights and cameras etc. It makes for incredibly long and tedious viewing, despite the interesting subject matter.

I know a lot of the guys featured in Pink Ribbon, and they are not so happy with the results. The basic problem seems that Fujii knew little about the subject before he made the film, and it shows. Why were none of the Four Devils interviewed? Why didn't they ask Adachi any questions about his time in Palestine? Why even interview Kurosawa, who has only made one pink film?

A very disappointing work.

Just a friendly reminder that not everybody on the site is into this pinku stuff. Understanding that a lot of directors, important ones, came up through it's ranks and had no other outlet, the above picture is still pretty crass.

Trying to live in extreme purity in an extreme world

NO disrespect intended

the site isnt here to appeal to peoples taster per se. its to give a record / portrayal of our tastes to 'spread the word' (i suppose thats the best description)... the genre is more than it initially appears to be, and after all without sex you wouldnt be here. not would i.

thats how i look at it. no disrespect intended.
