This may be one of the first images from an upcoming Lee Myung-se film, The Duelist. The film is a period piece that takes place in the Chosun era and the story is about a confrontation between a secret faction plotting treason and the police. It has been six years since his last film Nowhere to Hide. Filming may be very well wrapped up by now since it began in November and the producers were looking for an August release. The Japanese films rights were sold for $5 million. We reported before that this is the highest amount paid for Japanese rights to a Korean film. The plan is to open the film simultaeously in Korea and Japan.
The film stars Ha Ji-won [Love So Divine], Kang Dong-won [Temptation of the Wolves] and a vetern actor with some serious chops, Ahn Sung-ki [Nowhere to Hide, Musa, Silmido and Arahan].
Oh man, I love Nowhere to Hide! I'm definitely seeing this.
The plot seems to be similar to that of the drama Damo (also with Ha Ji-won).
It is in fact a film version of Damo - which I loved - it will be fascinating though to see what Lee Myung-se does with this material.
The director however is said to have strongly denied that it's a film version of Damo. To quote him from an article: "it's a completely different story from the drama, except for the Chosun-period female detective character, who is actually closer to detective Woo from 'Nowhere to Hide'."
The synopsis of the film sounds pretty close to the original plot of the cartoon 'Damo' on which the drama was based. In fact, the drama was quite different from the cartoon--while the latter was a mystery/detective story with some element of romance, the former was the other way around, with most of its love story invented by the screenwriter.
This movie is not a direct sequal or the movie version of Damo, but a pseudo-quel. Pseudo-quels are not direct sequels, but feature a smiliar plotline and the same cast if possible to appeal to the fans of original series. An example of Pseudo-quel is Windstruck, the psuedo-quel to My Sassy Girl, featuring same actress and a similar plotline.
kindly let me knoww the contact of the prodution companies as i am interested in buying the film for India
