Yeah, yeah, yeah ... I gush about this guy every time any Scandanavian films enter the conversation. I'm a fan. Sue me. I just found the trailer for Jensen's latest - Adam's Apples - online and it looks to mine the same dark comedy mine that he hit with The Green Butchers. And, yep, both Mads Mikkelson and Nicholaj Lie Kaas from that film also appear in this one. Hit the trailer here.
"Adam's apples" is his best film as a director. It far more dark in his humour than any of his prior films and actually quiet violent. I wonder if the MPAA will allow American viewers to watch them shoot birds (and a cat) :)
I spoke with Anders about the film, and he confessed to me, that they all were very jackass-ish in their humour, but that was what he felt like when he wrote them. They are not "real" films, as he said, but simply an outlet for some grotesque ideas he got and rather than just sitting and laughing about them, he shaped them into a script.
Important for these films are, that Anders writes directly for a specific actor. All his actors are close friends, and he writes each part with one specific actor in mind.
Personally, I feel uncomfortable recommending his films to foreigners, as they are so very Danish in their humour, so its nice to hear that they actually have an audience outside of Denmark who appreciates them.
