5-25-77

(Posted In)

genessee.jpgHoo boy ... Nat from the Lake County Film Festival gave me the heads up on this and I'm glad he did ...

Is 5-25-77 (c'mon ... you know what happened then ... admit it ...) a fan film or a professional production? It looks like a bit of both ... the cast is made up largely of amateurs but it does also feature Christopher Lloyd, has original music by Alan Parsons (!), and sports Gary Kurtz as a producer. You know Gary. Trust me. Produced a little film called Star Wars back in '77. Ah. That'd explain the title, yes?

So what's it about? It's a loving little ode to growing up in the seventies with the explosion of big budget sci-fi and wishing you could be making these fantastic films rather than just watching them. It's fertile ground for a film, really, and I'm more than a little surprised nobody's gone there before ... the official trailer hasn't turned up on the website yet, but writer/director Patrick Read Johnston (Spaced Invaders) just gave me the all clear to send you here to check out a rough teaser cut together for cast and crew ... Nice ...

i actually stumbled across "a lost hope" a few days ago. really well done low budget spoof. if you can't do 3d just use halloween costumes (it's actually better that way IMHO).

This is the post-production trailer that we showed before every program at the Lake County Film Festival.

Crazybee: if you like film, and live in Lake County, you need to get on our mailing list.

I'm working on a monthly series, and trying like hell to get Memories of Murder for our first showing.

This is in no way a fan film. PRJ said that the final budget was 1.5 mil.

I think the most interesting piece in the story that's not mentioned is that Patrick was the first person to see Star Wars that wasn't involved in making it.

I think most people that have read the script agree that it sort of plays out like Almost Famous for Science-Fiction Films.

I can't wait to see more of it!

I thought about altering that fan film comment but the 'Introducing"' list was way longer than the normal cast list and it's obviously something made for love more than anything else, so I left it in there. It's like a fan film made by pros ...

Very cool story about the Star Wars viewing ...

That preview has left me craving for more! With all the activity in Lake County right now, its a wonder more people have yet to hear about all of this.

In the past year, "5-25-77", "Batman Begins", "The Ice Harvest", "Ocean's Twelve", and the "Amityville Horror" have all used locations in Lake County. Now we have a Film Festival, and other productions rolling in! There's at least two features on tap for Lake County filming right now - "Death Walks the Streets" and another the name of which escapes me.

When the hell did this happen? I had no idea that ANY film activity was occurring in my backyard (though I was involved in Spiderman 2 in Chicago). That's good to know, guys. I'm producing/shooting my company's first feature length film this Summer, but we're doing it in Indianapolis. Can I get a link to some info on the Lake County Film Festival? I am very much interested in maybe getting our film shown to an audience when we've finished it sometime before the end of the year. I'll need to stay in touch with you guys.

It looks like the next festival is March 3 - 7, 2006
