Paul Spurrier's P: Official Website Updated

(Posted In)

p_poster.jpgOver the weekend, the official website for Paul Spurrier's P ( pี ) was updated for the first time since the film was in pre-production. Some new information about the film and its lead actress, Suangporn Jaturaphut, has been added to the site. There's now also a gallery with 47 large JPGs (totalling approx. 63 MB in size); the first one is a poster for the film (see left), while the rest are production and film stills. There's no trailer yet on the site; however, Todd posted this link for one back on February 27.

Incidentally, " pี " isn't a Thai character; rather, it's a Latin small letter 'p' (U+0070) with a Thai character 'sara ii' (U+0E35) above it. The film's working title was "Phii Borb", which apparently was Spurrier's romanization of " ผีปอบ ".

Just got the go ahead on an interview with Spurrier ... I'm asking him about the Brussels controversy ... anything else people want to know?

I have just read the 'Press Release' from the 'Thai Trade Web' on the BIFF forum and am now feeling very angry indeed. Have these guys never heard of freedom of expression? Artistic licence even? This beggars belief....

Please ask Spurrier about his choice of the Latin-Thai (i.e., Western-Thai) hybrid character " pี " (pee), rather than the Thai character "
ผ " (pee), as the onscreen title for the film. Also, please ask him whether he intends to shoot any more movies in Thailand - and, if so, whether he believes that the controversy over P will make it more difficult for him to do so. Finally, please urge him to submit P to the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montréal, for consideration for its 2005 programme. (Note that Fantasia doesn't charge submission fees.)

Hmmm....I can't seem to find any reference through Google or the other search engines to any such thing as the "Thai Tradeweb"........can't seem to find Kanjetcharn either.....perhaps just a phii kraseu?
