Details on Yamato - a New Japanese WWII Film

(Posted In)

yamato.jpgAnother quality find from The Gomorrahizer here ... he's already done all the work, so I'll just copy and paste away ...

The official website for Jun'ya Satô's Otoko-tachi no Yamato is now online, and the names of the film's eight principal cast members have been announced on it (see below). The screenplay for the World War II film, about the Japanese battleship Yamato (hence the all-male principal cast), is based on Jun Henmi's non-fiction books Ketteiban otoko-tachi no Yamato (ue) and Ketteiban otoko-tachi no Yamato (shita). The film is being produced by Tôei and Kadokawa Haruki Jimusho. It's scheduled to be released theatrically in Japan in December.

This has been around for almost 6 months and they still haven't managed to set up a real website or even to show some stills from the movie.

According to the Otoko-tachi no Yamato official website, the film's main cast was decided ("mein kyasuto ga kettei shimashita") on March 7.

At last, a real movie about the real historical Yamato!
Hope they have some English version translation so that the English-speaking audience outside Japan can understand the movie!

It's great being japanese. You just know where to go from the scoops.

I can't wait to see this release in the states. I'm a Star Blazer fan and okinawan so this movie has great meaning to me.

Can't wait to see it in DVD. I've been waiting to see Yamato in CGI for years. I myself drew many Yamato related action in my own comics series, like World War II:1946, including the upgraded version with 20" guns. Hope movie did well to see more in this format.

I was in Japan last year and saw the trailer in the theater. It was very impressive. I also saw a print tabloid about the making of the film showing what looked like a full scale waterline construction of the battleship. The tabloid was in Japanese, which I can't read. I'm here because I'm searching for a US release date. Can't wait!

My Dad was in a cruiser of the Royal Navy in the Pacific during WW2. I therefore have an interest in this theatre of operations and in particular the Yamato. Can anyone tell me where can I get a DVD of this film in the UK, with or without subtitles?
