Shinobi Trailer

(Posted In)

shinobi.jpgHere's one that's making the rounds mighty quickly. Someone sent me the link last night and I've already spotted it on a pair of other sites ... Shinobi is a Japanese period martial arts piece from Ten Shimoyama that reminds me of Ryuhei Kitamura's Azumi in a lot of ways except, hopefully, better. If nothing else this one's got an impressive sense of style and scope, they've obviously sunk some money into the design and it's got a cast that can actually act. At least Joe Odagiri can. He's the only one I recognized. Here's hoping that they actually took the time to teach their fighters to fight before rolling the cameras. It seems like a fairly obvious step, but somehow Kitamura keeps forgetting to do it ... You can hit the trailer here.

Ten Shimoyama did a pretty good job directing real fighters with MUSCLE HEAT. Can't wait to see this one!

Nakama Yukie is pretty but she's not that great of an actress.

They might've sunk some money into the design, but apparently they were short on the money for the composer. Good use of the $99 Casio keyboard though.

The team who directed the action scenes in versus have already released a movie called Shinobi, I'm hoping this is a lot better, that one has ninja's in a forest, low budget, very scatty.

"Shinobi" was the first in an experiment here to allow members of the general public to invest in studio feature films, with a guarantee of at least an even return. The film was already greenlit before the campaign started. The minimum investment was 100,000 yen (around US$1000). Not sure how it went in the end.
