Poster Art For Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Loft

(Posted In)

loftsmall.jpgWe have the best readers in the world. Why? Because they send us stuff like this: the poster for the new film by Kiyoshi Kurosawa.

We posted about this a while back when all we had was a Japanese title - Shi No Otome - and we now have the English title of Loft and the official poster. Click here to see a larger version of that. And I've also just been clued in to the fact that this is a mummy movie. Did anybody else know this? 'Cause it's the first I've heard. I need to go change my pants.

The film's official production website does not yet include anything other than the poster, but you can find it here. Huge thanks to Jason for pointing this out.

site also has this synopsis :

A prize-winning writer, Leiko(NAKATANI Miki), moves to a quiet sub-urban house to finish up her new novel with a help from the editor. That night while sleeping, she sees a man in a storage room transporting an object wrapped in cloth. She soon finds out that he is a renowned archaeologist, Professor Yoshioka(TOYOKAWA Etsushi), researching ancient mummies, and that object was a recently discovered mummy. Working late on her book, Leiko witneses a ghost and finds out that her room once belonged to a woman who had been misssing for a while. This brings unexplainable fear to Leiko as she starts to uncover more stories from the past.

"Loft?" I'm always curious who assigns these English titles... Maybe the "Daughter of Death" or "Death Maiden" that it is literally is, well, too corny? Reminds me of his Kairo... who decided that that would be "Pulse"?!

well, this film (from my brief nosing this morning) seems to be financed by a korean company... so, hope for a cheapo korean disc with subs about the same time as you would expect a japanese one...

Nice ... that synopsis wasn't there last night ...

Despite being a huge K.Kurosawa fan this doesn't sound too good, perhaps because I can't picture a mummy flick by KK and the fact that I don't really care for mummy flicks in general.
But hey, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised when I see this since I don't expect too much :)

i dont think its a typical "mummy flick" (like we should expect anything typical from kurosawa!)... it looks more (from the pics at the site) like its about a mummified body in a house than a bloke / woman staggering around , draped in bandages...

ive nosed around the internet some more, and no japanese sites are making any obvious mentions of this film yet...

Godamn, that poster looks great! From the poster and synopsis it sounds like this movie is going to be scarry as fuck.

I see this film isn't even listed on IMDB yet - I am curious as to the technical credits. Can't wait.

From the looks of the poster we'll see some more of his genius splitscreen work.

Didn't notice that site link earlier *smacks head*, those pictures have got me intrigued now.. damn, I just love Kurosawa - there's just something about his movies. He doesn't go explaining everything for the viewer and leaves room for one's imagination.

I mentioned to Todd that this film may very well not have any rampaging mummies per se, but the idea and image of the mummy seems to be central. My scene involved watching a series of mummy slides at an archeological presentation. The building we shot in was very creepy to begin with, and Kurosawa-kantoku in his talent, built on that.
